Returns Policy
Buying at auction is different from buying in a shop. Please read this page before you bid, so you know where you stand if something isn’t as expected.
No cancellation period
Our sales are public auctions. The 14-day cancellation period that applies to many online purchases does not apply to goods bought at public auction, including where you bid online, by telephone or by absentee bid. This does not affect any rights you have that cannot be excluded by law.
Descriptions and condition
Our catalogue descriptions, photographs, condition grades and condition reports are given in good faith, but they are statements of opinion and a guide only. Any statement about origin, date, age, attribution, authenticity or estimated price is our opinion, not a guarantee.
All lots are sold as seen. Please satisfy yourself about condition before bidding. You can view in person, ask for extra photographs, or request a condition report by email or through the “Condition Report” button in the catalogue. Unless the description expressly says otherwise, no guarantee is given that any mechanical, electrical or electronic function works.
Electrical items
Electrical and electronic items, including hi-fi, are sold as collectors’ items only. They have not been tested for electrical safety, and no guarantee is given as to their working condition. Please have any such item checked by a qualified electrician before connecting it to the mains.
Deliberate forgeries
The one exception to our no-returns rule is a lot that turns out to be a deliberate forgery. We will refund the full amount you paid if:
- you tell us in writing within 14 days of the sale, giving the lot number and your reasons;
- within a further 14 days you return the lot to us, at your own cost, in the same condition as at the sale; and
- you provide written evidence from a recognised independent expert showing that the lot is a deliberate forgery.
Items that have been repaired, restored, modified or fitted with replacement parts are not forgeries. Full conditions are in clause B9 of our Terms & Conditions.
Items damaged in transit
If you took out our transit cover and your item arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photographs of the item and the packaging, and keep all packaging until the claim is settled. If you did not take out cover, the item travelled at your own risk and we cannot accept liability. See our Delivery Policy for details.
If we send the wrong item
If you receive a lot that is not the one you bought, please contact us straight away and we will put it right.
Refunds
Where a refund is due, it will be made using the same method you used to pay, or by bank transfer. We will process it as soon as possible, and in any event within 28 days of agreeing the refund.
