How Our Free Camera Valuation Works

  1. Send us photos using the form on this page, or by email to contact@carshaltonauction.co.uk.
  2. We’ll reply with an auction estimate and tell you which of our sales your camera would suit.
  3. You decide. There’s no obligation to sell. If you go ahead, we agree terms in writing and catalogue your camera for the next suitable sale.

We’re London Camera & Antique Auction Ltd, an independent auction house at 11 High Street, Carshalton, Surrey, selling cameras since 1985.

Photos We Need

  • The front, back and top of the camera
  • The serial number
  • The lens, including its name, focal length and aperture markings
  • Any faults, and whether the shutter fires
  • Any accessories, boxes, cases or paperwork

What Affects a Camera's Value

These are the things our valuers look at first:

  • Make and model: a few makers, such as Leica, Rolleiflex and Hasselblad, account for most high prices
  • The lens: fast or rare lenses can be worth more than the camera
  • Condition of the body, shutter, rangefinder and glass
  • Completeness: original box, caps, case and paperwork
  • Rarity: limited editions and unusual variants
