Lot 249: 19th Century Octagonal Brass Censer – Profusely Engraved
7 views
A fine and heavy brass censer, of octagonal form, dating from the 19th century, Qing Dynasty. The body is beautifully decorated all over with intricate hand-engraved designs including scrolling foliage, flower heads, geometric patterns, and key-fret borders, showcasing high-quality craftsmanship typical of the period. The interior features a raised floral medallion to the centre base, and a small mark/number is visible, likely from the maker or workshop. Standing on a stepped octagonal foot, with a wide, flared rim, the piece has developed a rich, mellow patina throughout, consistent with age and use. The metal is substantial and well-cast, with sharp, clear engraving covering every panel. No damage, repairs, or heavy wear — in excellent original condition.
